Long, slim and quietly dramatic.
The Roman brick is not a house brick. Matzen's 2114 Yellow Stone measures 348 x 108 x 33 mm: about half as long again as the Danish format brick and around 40% lower in height. Laid up, it draws long horizontal lines and gives a wall a fine, layered texture.
- Five waterstruck Roman bricks in the launch range, from pale 2113 Desert Sand to 2710 Black Night.
- 2113 Desert Sand is held in stock by Matzen. The others are made to order.
- The brick Pont12 Architectes chose for the Théâtre de Carouge in Geneva.
Eighteen bricks, chosen with Matzen for Australia.
Five long Roman bricks and thirteen in the Danish format, recommended by Matzen's sales team. Any other Matzen brick can be ordered too.

Handstruck and waterstruck.
Matzen makes only two kinds of brick, both by machine, both from Danish clay.
- Handstruck bricks are formed in sand filled mould boxes. The sand gives a textured face and natural variation from brick to brick, with a more pronounced character.
- Waterstruck bricks are made by pressing wet clay into shape. The face is smoother and the wall reads calmer, with soft colour movement.
- Several Matzen bricks are engobed: a fine clay surface layer adds or deepens colour before firing.

Specify with the paperwork in hand.
Every Danish format brick in the range has a Declaration of Performance to EN 771-1 and is covered by a third party EPD registered with EPD Norway.
- Reaction to fire A1, freeze thaw durability F2 and active soluble salts S2 on every DoP in the range.
- Cradle to gate (A1 to A3) carbon from 34.2 kg CO₂e per tonne for Gråsten's red and black bricks.
- Matzen holds certificates for biogas allocation covering all its bricks.
